Soda firing is a type of glaze firing where the kiln atmosphere has a direct impact and hand in decorating the pot.  A solution of soda ash and water is injected into the kiln at a very high temperature.  It volatilizes and is carried by the draft of the kiln onto the pots where it reacts with the decorating slips and glazes.  Each soda fired pot is one-of-a-kind and impossible to recreate.  Gorgeous!
